IOT
WHAT
IS “IOT”?
The “Internet of
Things”is a huge topic of conversation. There is a lot to know about “IOT”but
we discuss some basics. Today the world is connected with internet, our old
cell phones are now smart phones, refrigerator has inbuilt sensor to control
temperatures, single box washing machines are now fully automated with pretty
inbuilt features. More and more areas are covered with “Wi-Fi”technology. All
of these things perfect for “IOT”.
The Internet of
Things is actually a pretty simple concept, it means taking all
the things in the world and connecting them to the internet. The “IOT”
is a giant network of connected “things” (people also included).
WHAT “IOT” EXACTLY DO?
The basic feature of
internet is “to send” and “to receive” information or both. So the things which
included in this have these features which are smart. Smart means these things
do not need a special computer or high level storage. Connection is important.
“IOT”IN LIFE:
There are many
examples of “iot” impacts in our life. What if your alarm clock wakes up you at 6 a.m. and then
notifies your coffee maker to start brewing coffee for you? What if your office
equipment knew when it was running low on supplies and automatically re-ordered
more? What if your refrigerator message u there is no veggies for evening?
All the things in
IOT can be put in to three categories:
1.
Things that collect information and
then send it.
2.
Things that receive information
and then act on it.
3.
Things that do both.
1. COLLECT
AND SEND:
How is it
possible? Answer is sensors. any type of sensor can come in this category temperature
sensor, air quality sensor, sensor in plants, sensor in animals you just think
and you get the answer .In the farm sensors which are fitted in the plant knows
automatically how much water plant is needed and this technology works in save
water and get good crops and relaxed farmers. These sensors almost like human
senses touch, eyes, smell.
WHEN MY FRIDGE ORDER GROCCERY..
2. RECEIVE AND ACT:
My car door opens with small car key signal from far
away. This means this is already working machines are receiving signal and
acting accordingly. The real power
of the Internet of Things arises when things can do both of the above. Things
that collect information and send it, but also receive information and act on
it.
4. DOING BOTH:
In farm sensors in plants know amount of water
plants needed, but when water is less they don’t need any human but this system
automatically on water supply and close it when work is done. This system is so
much powerful it can receive information about weather from internet and know
when it’s going to rain and decide not to water plants that day. All this can
be done with sensors.
TECHNICAL DEFINITION OF “IOT”
The internet of things, or IOT, is a
system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines,
objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers ( UIDs )
and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring
human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.
